statics study prize 2021 to J. Schäffer

July 25, 2022

The study award of the Freundeskreis Stuttgarter Statik e.V. for the past year went to Julia Schäffer, M. Sc., IBB.

The study prize of the Freundeskreis Stuttgarter Statik e. V., which has been awarded since 2017, is a very important component in the work of the Freundeskreis Stuttgarter Statik and fits well into the series of existing prizes at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. It is awarded to a graduate of the Master's program in Civil Engineering at the University of Stuttgart with above-average academic achievement and an excellent thesis with scientific merit in the field of structural mechanics. The award winner is selected by the general meeting of the circle of friends.

The laureate of the 2021 Study Award of the Friends of Stuttgart Structural Mechanics is Ms. Julia Schäffer, M. Sc.

Ms. Schäffer studied civil engineering at the faculty in the bachelor's and master's program and graduated in April 2021. She wrote her master's thesis entitled: "Strömungssimulation zur Berechnung windinduzierter Druckbelastung" (Flow simulation for the calculation of wind-induced pressure loads) at the faculty's Institute of Structural Mechanics IBB in cooperation with technet GmbH. The challenging work dealt with the numerical simulation of bodies flowing around them and the resulting pressure loads. Particularly noteworthy is the successful combination of science and practice in this thesis, which was also the deciding factor in the selection of the prize winner.

As the Friends of Stuttgart Structural Engineering, we are very pleased to have been able to present this award to Ms. Schäffer. Congratulations!

The Freundeskreis Stuttgarter Statik e.V. is the support association and alumni association of the Institute of Structural Analysis and Structural Dynamics at the University of Stuttgart. Members are former PhD students of the institute, but also former students and Calgarians, i.e. participants of the DAAD exchange with the University of Calgary. The aim is to promote research and teaching in the field of structural analysis and structural dynamics as well as computational mechanics. For this purpose, the Circle of Friends organizes excursions and lectures from professional practice and supports final theses or research stays abroad. A special concern is to highlight and support the work of students, doctoral candidates or persons who have made special contributions in the field of structural analysis or computer-oriented mechanics by awarding prizes.
