We bid farewell to our highly esteemed faculty member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kurt Schäfer. Born in 1936, he was appointed to the second professorship at the former Institute for Solid Construction (successor: Institute for Leichtweight Structures and Conceptual Design ILEK) in today's Faculty 2 in August 1976 after studying civil engineering and obtaining his doctorate. Here he researched and taught until almost the new millennium. Together with Prof. J. Schlaich, he developed a cross-material teaching concept and advanced the method of bar models.
The faculty thanks Kurt Schäfer for his many years of service and will remember him as a dedicated researcher and university teacher.
