Prof. Birkmann, director of the Faculty's Institute of Spatial and Regional Planning IREUS, presented the latest findings from research at IREUS in the session: "Knowledge for sustainable and resilient cities in times of climate change" at the World Climate Conference COP 27 in Sharm el-Sheikh on November 14th, 2022. His contribution focused on the topics of resilience and reconstruction after extreme events in the context of the BMBF-KAHR project. The expert discussion highlighted the topicality of the issue and the need for international research in this research field. In addition, research gaps were clearly identified that could be addressed in the planned IPCC report on climate and cities.
