As part of the preparation of the faculty part of SEPUS (Structural and Development Plan of the University of Stuttgart), edition 2021-2025, the Great Faculty Council of the faculty decided on a new faculty vision in a special session on January 29th, 2020:

Sustainable Engineering Design

At the same special meeting, the GFR also agreed, after intensive discussion, on a new structure, particularly for research. Instead of the previous four areas of computational mechanics, structural engineering, transportation systems and water and environment, in future it will be based on the three pillars

  • Buildings and materials,
  • Space and transport and
  • Water, environment and biosystems

The three areas are linked by four common methodological approaches:

  • Modeling, simulation and optimization,
  • Planning, designing and building,
  • Operating, monitoring and controlling,
  • Digitize and automate.

These cross-fertilizers enable diverse networking and form the basis for interdisciplinary cooperation within the university and beyond. The intention behind all topics is to understand and evaluate them in order to arrive at technical instructions for action by means of scientifically sound decisions.
