The project includes the creation of a green façade mock-up that is optimized in terms of building physics and promotes biodiversity. For the first time, the effects of the green façade on HUMANS, FLORA and FAUNA will be considered holistically. The developed mock-up should not only show a heterogeneous plant composition with changing and high flowering occurrence (as well as nectar and pollen content), but also an increase of structural richness and nesting sites for e.g. ground-nesting wild bees. The physical effects on the building components behind and the interior must always be taken into account. In addition to improving the microclimate (especially on hot summer days), the aim must always be to keep the building components free of damage and, at best, to increase the comfort of the room.

The mock-up is currently installed south of the eastern stair tower of PWR 9 facing Red Square on the Vaihingen campus and will be supported by IABP beyond the funding period. The installation will be in full bloom for the first time in spring 2022. The funding is provided under the university's own funding line Una Terra for the period August 1 to December 31, 2021. The implementation was carried out in collaboration with Helix Pflanzen GmbH. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
