In November, the Transport Engineering study program at the University of Stuttgart celebrated its 10th anniversary. An anniversary celebration was held with current and former students, lecturers and employees of the institutes involved in the study program. Dean of Studies Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Friedrich and members of the student council looked back on the past ten years. Several specialist presentations by graduates illustrated the range of professional fields of activity in transport engineering. The insights ranged from the Neckar-Alb regional light rail system and studies on Stuttgart 21 to bicycle traffic planning in the state of Baden-Württemberg and an office of a member of the German Bundestag.

In terms of content, the course represents a triad of infrastructure, vehicles and operation of transport systems. Students learn to forecast traffic demand and to design mobility offers on this basis. To this end, they are able to dimension transportation facilities, calculate their costs for construction and operation, and develop sustainable mode-specific as well as intermodal concepts for passenger and freight transportation. The degree program makes an important contribution to the training of competent specialists who are increasingly in demand for the transport turnaround and future-oriented development of mobility.
