Civil and environmental engineering. This is where planning, construction and consulting take place. Civil and environmental engineering is where the environment is shaped. Because they form the interface between technology and ecology.
What really motivates me about this field of study is that I am sure that later on I will have the opportunity to improve the world. I'm very sure that you can, because as an environmental engineer you know what the impact is, what the impact is on the environment, on people, and on animals.
My motivation is to design buildings and then to develop them statically, to include materials and also to deal with external influences,
The most fun for me is always to see, you have a starting situation, you have to see which materials I use, and then optimize, optimize, optimize, so that in the end you have the best possible building.
And what can you expect here?
In civil engineering, you learn how buildings have to be constructed so that they will stand up.
In environmental engineering, you deal with technical solutions to environmental problems such as the reduction of harmful exhaust gases or noise protection.
The basics of the study are mathematics and natural sciences. A technical understanding and spatial imagination are necessary to be able to implement complex structures. During your studies you will also deal with computer methods and important issues of environmental protection. You will also work closely with other disciplines such as architecture and urban planning, law and economics. Because the solutions of civil and environmental engineering often require a holistic approach.
So, challenging in this study are of course the first semesters. But if you stick it out, with each semester, it really gets better, it gets more and more interesting and subject-specific, you just have to bite through it.
My goal for the rest of my studies is to do a master's degree and maybe go abroad at some point, because in the desert you build differently than in Sweden, for example, where it's relatively cold. Or with us it's a bit of a mixture. It's very interesting to see that.
Do you want to help shape our world?
