Girls' Day: Wild City – the city for all

Girls‘ Day 2022

  • What is urban nature and how can we promote it?
  • How does urban nature affect people?

These issues have been on everyone's lips not just since Fridays for Future. Researchers in science are also dealing with these questions.

As part of Girls' Day 2022 on April 28, thirteen girls in grades 5 and 6 got insights and explanations on the above questions. Under the supervision of the faculty's Institute forAcoustics and Building Physics (IABP), together with the Institute of Landscape Planning and Ecology (ILPÖ), they looked at (urban) nature around experimental setups for façade-integrated nesting aids for wild bees on the campus in Vaihingen. Among other things, plants were determined, observed, pressed and drawn in nature diaries. In addition, due to the bright weather, wild bees could be closely examined at the nesting aids. The measuring technique, physical basics of the setups, the way of life of wild bees as well as tips for wild bee promotion in one's own garden or on the balcony were demonstrated and tested in a practical way on site.
