First virtual women's plenary meeting - New format with good response

May 12, 2021 / HKom

It was not only the first women's plenary meeting under the leadership of the new Equal Opportunity Officer Silvia Meyer, but also the first virtual meeting.

"A good response" is how Silvia Meyer and her deputy Tanja Walther sum up the event. Around 150 participants came together virtually on April 29, welcomed by Chancellor Jan Gerken.

The range of topics was broad. Among other things, Silvia Meyer showed how employees and students will in future be able to get in touch with contact persons anonymously if they have problems in the university environment, and how the various offers for conflicts in the workplace will be bundled. Further topics were a mailing list for employees from technology and administration and the reactivation of the network meeting "Uni & Pflege" (University & Care) for caring employees. Aline Schmid, mindfulness trainer, mediator and systemic business coach (BDVT), gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Let go of stress - strategies for strong women". She gave tips and showed how to switch off and recharge one's batteries in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

In groups of five, which were put together at random, the participants worked out, discussed and documented approaches to improving mobile working. This was discussed in greater depth in the subsequent virtual plenary session, where, for example, the advantages and disadvantages of mobile working as well as wishes for the time after the pandemic were addressed. Silvia Meyer: "We will now structure the suggestions and impulses according to the criteria of disadvantages, advantages, sustainability, health, technical equipment, organizational matters and suggestions and present them to the "Mobile Working" working group. Overall, it became clear that all participants would like to be able to integrate mobile working flexibly into their daily routine in the future. The combination of mobile working and presence times in the office is perceived as an important component for all employees, regardless of the care of children or nursing relatives. There was much discussion about the framework conditions: what should the mobile workplace look like in the future, what equipment is needed, what support can be provided by the university, is the application procedure still up to date? The information technology infrastructure was not yet considered satisfactory. According to the participants, there is a lack of suitable hardware and software as well as better possibilities for telephone forwarding and accessibility. Finally, topics such as transparent, fair payment were addressed and the campaign of the Federal Conference of Women's and Gender Equality Representatives at Universities (bukof) "FairNetzEuch" was pointed out.

At this point, Silvia Meyer and Tanja Walther would like to thank all participants for the great cooperation and a wide variety of suggestions.
