‘Research not only has to be performed and applied, but above all must be communicated’, says Professor Monilola Olayioye, Vice Rector for Young Researchers and Diversity. In the frame of the second Research Day of the University of Stuttgart on January 18th, 2019, she awarded publications with the University's Publication Prize 2018. The prize is endowed with 2,500 euros.

A team of researchers from the Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems (IWS) of the Faculty (Léo Agélas, Guillaume Enchéry, Martin Schneider and apl. Prof. Bernd Flemisch, Department Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems (LH²)) was honoured for their article "Convergence of nonlinear finite volume schemes for heterogeneous anisotropic diffusion on general meshes". In a short lecture, the laureates presented the topic of their publication. By doing so, even laypersons should be able to gain a rough insight into such complex research topic.

Afterwards, the PRIMA! prize was awarded for the first time during the Research Day. The Gender Equality Officer , Professor Nicole Radde, presented this prize for outstanding scientific academic theses of young female scientists to C. Giebler and S. Schlag from the Faculty 5.

The concluding buffet provides the opportunity to network and hold discussions across disciplinary boundaries. Olayioye highlights: ‘Successful networking is crucially important and we all benefit from the diversity of our faculties.’
