strengthens porous media at IWS within the framework of SFB1313

The whole faculty and the team of the SFB 1313 are pleased that Carina Bringedal, Ph.D., is Junior Professor for Advanced Methods in Porous Media at the faculty as of December 1, 2018. She comes from the University of Hasselt/Belgium, where she has also worked with porous media as a postdoctoral fellow.

previous life path
  • 2006-2011: Studies of applied and computer-oriented mathematics at the University of Bergen/NORWAY, degrees: M.Sc. and B.Sc.
  • 2011-2015: PhD student at the University of Bergen/NORWEGEN, field of work: Problems related to the extraction of geothermal energy (natural convection currents as well as upscaling of pore scale formulations for temperature induced chemical reactions), Ph.D.: Ph.
  • 2016-2017: Postdoctoral fellow at the Bjerknes Centre of Climate Research at the University of Bergen/NORWAY: Variability of ocean currents in the North Atlantic
  • 2017-11/2018: Postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hasselt/BELGIUM: Modelling and upscaling of developing interfaces on a pore scale, related both to two-phase flow and to reactive transport
  • Since 1 December 2018: Junior Professor "Advanced Methods in Porous Media" at the Institute of Water and Environmental System Modelling, Chair of Hydromechanics and Hydrosystemmodellierung of the Faculty within the framework of the SFB 1313 Interfacial-Driven Multi-Field Processes in Porous Media - Flow, Transport and Deformation, Project Areas A and C
Relations with porous media

Interface-driven processes in porous media are very interesting for her as she worked on the development of interfaces in porous media during her PhD and postdoctoral period in Hasselt. She is looking forward to learn more about interface controlled processes and plans to concentrate on porous scale evaporation during her time in Stuttgart.

Research interests:
  • Upscaling (homogenisation)
  • pore scale modeling
  • phase field modeling
  • Development of interfaces
  • Flows in porous media
  • Reactive transport.

We welcome her and wish her a good start!
