In the current issue (2020) of the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities, the faculty was not able to maintain last year's result in the comparison of civil engineering subjects (decrease of 9.3 points to 181.4). Thus, it continues to be one of the top 50 university civil engineering departments worldwide. At the same time, as in the two previous years, the faculty is the best faculty of civil engineering in Germany, as the next German ranking will only follow in the 150-200 range.

The faculty is also among the six best in Germany in the field of water resources.

The Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities has been compiled annually since 2003 by Jiaotong University in Shanghai (PR China). The focus is on research. Indicators are taken into account:

  • Number of scientific publications and number of citations (source: statistics from Thomson Reuters, which (only) consider the journals "Nature" and "Science" as well as the Web of Science)
  • awarded Nobel Prizes (Natural Sciences) and Fields Medals (Mathematics)
  • Size of the institution
