The whole faculty and the team of the SC SimTech are pleased that Dr.-Ing. Felix Fritzen is Professor for Data Analytics in Engineering at the faculty and the SC SimTech as of January 7th, 2020. He is well-known here, as he has been working and researching at the Institute of Applied Mechanics in Civil Engineering of Faculty 2 since 2015 with his DFG-funded junior research group EMMA - Efficient Methods for Mechanical Analysis.

Previous life path
  • until 2006 respectively 2007: Study of Mecahnical Engineering and Technical Mathematics at the University of Karlsruhe, degrees: Dipl.-Ing. (Carl-Benz-Prize) and Dipl.-Math. techn.
  • 2011: Finalizing Ph. D. at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technologie (KIT), title: "Microstructural modeling and computational homogenization of the physically linear and nonlinear constitutive behavior of microheterogeneous materials" (KIT-Ph. D.-Prize in the competence area "Matter and Materials")
  • 2012-2015: Postdoctoral researcher and head of the KIT junior scientists group
  • 2015-2020: Leader of the Emmy-Noether-Group EMMA at the faculty
  • Since January 7th, 2020: Heisenberg-Professor for Data Analytics in Engineering at SC Simtech (70 %) and the  faculty 2 (Institute of Applied Sciences in Civil Engineering)
Research activities:
  • Solid mechanics
  • Material modeling
  • Integrated consideration of numerically challenging simulations in order to significantly reduce the computational burden
  • Dedicated data analysis as kernel-based interpolation methods and data-assisted surrogate models.

We welcome him and wish him a good continuation of his work!
