The German Research Foundation launched the “DFG2020 – Because Research Matters” campaign in 2020. DFG’s motivation behind it was to bring their enthusiasm for free and knowledge-driven research to wider society. “The only way we can deal with global challenges such as climate change, digitization or demographic change is by working together and ‘choosing knowledge’”, writes the DFG to mark its 100th anniversary.
The University of Stuttgart has taken part in the campaign. During the course of the year, we were giving members of the university the chance to tell us all why they chose knowledge. The university management encourages all members of the university to take part. Here now are the quotes from the Faculty members or people associated with the Faculty:
"I have chosen knowledge (#fürdaswissen), by deciding to complete my doctoral degree studies as part of a cooperation between Bosch and the Collaborative Research Center 1313 at the University of Stuttgart. This allows me to contribute to helping ensure that the world continues to progress in the future. Only in-depth knowledge and an understanding of technical and physical processes allows us to develop technologies for the future." Cynthia Michalkowski, SFB 1313 Doctoral Student, Robert Bosch GmbH, Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems (IWS)
"I decided #fortheKowledge because knowledge enriches you as a human being, and without knowledge the world becomes coarse and brutal." Prof. Dr. Wolfram Ressel, Chair for Road Design and Construction of the Faculty and Rector University of Stuttgart
