In 2010, employees of the Institute for Geotechnics (IGS) and the Institute for Building Energy, Thermotechnology and Energy Storage (IGTE) at the University of Stuttgart began testing this idea in a experimental facility in a light rail tunnel. Now, a geothermal plant will heat the elephant house in Stuttgart Zoo.
