Climate change is here - how do we deal with it? At the
3
rd Mainau Sustainability Dialogue, Environment Minister Untersteller, local
authorities and scientists discussed strategies for adapting to climate change in
Baden-Württemberg. Prof. Dr. Jörn Birkmann from the Institute of Spatial and Regional Planning
IREUS underlined the importance of risks in the context of climate change. Risks require a joint
consideration of climate and socio-demographic change in cities and regions.
Differentiated planning bases are required for this. The discussion in workshops also showed
that adaptation to climate change requires different strategies and that conflicts of objectives
between different areas must also be addressed.
