The Steel Construction Calendar Day 2021, organized by the Institute of Structural Design (KE), will take place online. This year, the day will focus on the two main topics "Bridges" and "New Eurocode Generation". This includes as a core contribution the explanation of the new guideline drawings for steel and composite bridges with structural details, furthermore contributions with concrete examples on fabrication and erection, on design in composite bridge construction and on bridge equipment such as bearings, deck transitions and cables. The current developments of the new Eurocode generation are also presented in the application field of bridges. For example, the draft of the new bulge standard prEN 1993-1-5, which will enter the official European survey later this year, will be presented with its amendments. Several articles present new developments in fatigue analysis, a crucial topic for bridge construction. Bridges, especially steel and composite bridges, are very attractive structures and their design can make a mark on a city or neighborhood. At the same time, they are very demanding in their design and detailing, so the advice given here by experts is also interesting and important for other high-quality and durable steel structures beyond the immediate scope of bridges.
The authors of the Steel Construction Calendar present their topics and are available for discussions. For engineers working in practice, this opens up the opportunity to obtain first-hand information on the topics, ask questions and discuss with the authors.
