Water is the basis of life for the people on earth. For most of us, the availability of water is a matter of course. Only when there is too much or too little water do we recognize its importance. In this lecture the water cycle and the origin and frequency of floods and droughts in Germany and in the world, in connection with climate change, will be discussed.
