The "Stuttgart - Ulm" rail project has its challenges not only because of its immense scope, but above all because of the dissection into many individual commissioning stages of the project. The transition to a new digital world of safety technology can be seen as a further challenge, but above all as an opportunity. For the first time, a digital safety system (ETCS without signals) is being integrated into a node under the rolling wheel as part of the "Stuttgart digital node" pilot project.
